Step 1: Inspect the rug
Before cleaning, inspect the rug for any stains, debris, or mould growth. This helps you identify areas that need special attention.
Step 2: Shake or hoover
Begin by shaking out or hoovering the rug to remove loose dirt, dust, and debris. This step prevents the dirt from going deeper into the fibres during the cleaning process.
Step 3: Hose down and use washing-up liquid
Take the rug and lay it flat on a clean surface. Use a garden hose to thoroughly rinse the rug with water. Ensure you hose both sides of the rug to remove all dirt. Take a small amount of washing-up liquid with water in a bucket. Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach, as they can damage the fibres of the rug.
Step 4: Spot treat stains
For stubborn stains, apply a mixture of water and washing-up liquid directly to the affected areas. Use a soft brush or sponge to gently scrub the stain in a circular motion. Allow the detergent to penetrate the stain for a few minutes before rinsing.
